21st December 2007 |
| |
A first for us the garden was filled with straw bales, we sold hot dogs, Gluvine and toffee apples and we hired in a choir to lead us all in carols for the evening. Everyone had a great time and it heralded in Christmas for all who were there. Definitely to be repeated next year. |
| |
2nd November 2007 |
| |
| We threw a party, gave away free drinks (not to be repeated in a hurry!!) at the sad news that after six years Jodie our bar manager had decided to move to pastures new. Customers and friends united to give her a great send off. And she was set up with driving lessons and other treats from the customers and a little run around car by Emma and Harry. |
| |
7th September to 20th October 2007 |
| |
We proved yet again that there is only one place in Windsor to watch rugby and that is The Prince Arthur. The rugby world cup became all consuming to our customers with good crowds for all games. However once England made it to the semi finals things got really packed, so what did we do, doubled the size of the bar by adding a 62’inch plasma screen to the garden for the final. This turned into an enormous occasion and was a cracking night even with the wrong result.
We would like to thank all our customers for the support that they gave us during this period and also to encourage you all to return for the Six Nations in 2008. |
| |
6th July 2007 |
| |
The Prince Arthur Golf Day is now firmly established as the social event of the season with many booking their holidays around it to make sure that the can attend.
Our very generous sponsors this year were Castle lager to whom we owe a massive debt of gratitude and their very generous supply of beer was engaged by some more than others. There was a hint of a more competition this year the organisers felt, which obviously we will have stamped out by next year!
It is even rumoured that Harry will play in 2008 and not just drive the drinks trolley. |
| |
2nd May 2007 |
| |
Jodie took up the reins and lead her intrepid band to the Derby one more time (in turned out to be her last trip) Much fun was had by all with lots to drink, picnics and as ever a few winners but more losers. All were returned safely to the pub where there were many ‘it only lost by a nose’ type comments. |
| |
April 14th 2007 |
| |
Barnado's owe Jodie a debt of gratitude as she organised a fun evening of races for this worthwhile charity where £450 was raised from a loyal band of hearty gamblers, prizes were won and traded by the great and the good, even if some customers had not quite grasped the concept of how it all works!!
We do hope to have another one of these great nights later in the year and will keep everyone posted. |
|
September 10th 2006 |
| |
| An excellent day was had by all at this hotly contested tournament held at the Power League in Slough . Jayflex, The Oldies, The Rubbish Men and Alister's All Stars battled it out to be this years champions. It became apparent that winning was important and finally the All Stars triumphed in the final which was decided on penalties following a 4-4 draw. We would like to thank everyone who attended, sustained injuries and more importantly donated generously to Raleigh International our chosen charity of the moment. |
| |
September 30th - RACE NIGHT
|
|
| This saw us supporting Mike Smithson who is responsible for looking after our web site at The Prince Arthur in his attempts to raise £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
We were delighted to be able to raise an admirable £650 for this effort and Mike will now do his bit and cycle across South Africa ! Seems like we definitely got the good end of the deal!
It goes without saying that we are most grateful to all who contributed, turned up and of course to local and very successful Estate Agents Hamilton Chess for their kind sponsorship of the evening so that all money raised could go to the charity. |
| |
8th July 2005 Golf Day |
|
We cannot work out what is more popular on this day the beer buggy or the competition!
We have to thank our excellent sponsors in the forms of Red bull and Smirnoff who certainly made the day go well and indeed the final holes were trickier than the first after so much liquid refreshment.
James Gunson was the eventual winner and all at The prince Arthur would like to thank Jimmy for unraveling the scores!
No fish died this year and apparently there were fewer buggy crashes too! |
| |
4th June 2005 Derby Day |
| |
Jodie got her team together to take over Epsom for another year and by all accounts has cemented this trip in the Prince Arthur calendar.
Safe with a proper bus this year she shepherded them through the who can drink the most on the bus and who can lose the most at the bookies competitions.
It can only be said that the wheels fully fell off upon their return to base cam or Planet Arthur as it should have been known that night and as the dancing started an excellent night was had by all. |
| |
15th October 2004 - Karaoke Night |
| |
|
Our karaoke evening went well and after an initial period of shyness from all, the ice was broken by Roddy and when everyone else had caught up on the drinks front there was no stopping the rest of the assembled throng from warbling out a selection of hits. Or they were for the original performers!!

Pictured here are Roddy, Andrea, Steph and Kate giving it their all. The winners on the evening presented with designer watches courtesy of Irish Al were Mad and Roddy.

5th June 2004 - The Epsom Pilgrimage |
| |
|
|
Jodie's annual pilgrimage to Epsom took a turn for the worse when a self drive minibus was used to ferry the guests and a few most notably the bus would like to forget the event. The usual fun and frolics were had by all, bookings are already being taken for next year, Roddy was good and the Neil and Bryony picnic will be forever remembered in a sort of 'I would never have thought of mixing those two things in a sandwich before' kind of way!! |

14th May 2004 - Fat Pig goes Irish |
| |
|
| This day will be remebered as the day that the Fat Pig went Irish for those of you who are regulars his will mean something for those of you who are not keep an eye out for the next Fat Pigs night and make sure that you don't miss it!! |

|
12th May 2004 - Jo Bateman raising £1,000 for charity |
| |
|
| Jo Bateman had been noticeable in her abscence from the bar, until we were informed that she was following a strict training regime for her Three Peaks challenge backed up by her team mates from Onyx. To help raise funds she asked us to run a quiz and raffle evening which was a great success raising nearly £1000 for their chosen charity. All went well apart from the stroppy Quiz Master organisers felt!! |

5th Feb 2004 - A special night for Emma |
| |
|
| A special evening for Emma, having been nominated for and then reaching the finals of RBWM's Young Business Person of the Year award, a gala dinner at the Pavilion suite of ascot racecourse saw Emma win. A very subdued table of well wishers who attended with her must be thanked for their very Prince Arthur brand of vocal support. There followed a fantastic amount of local, trade and even national press. Regulars and not so regulars were united in congratulating Emma on such a well deserved award. |

Locals night in aid of Cancer Research |
| |
 |
This event raised an
outstanding £1500 for this very worthwhile charity,
and was based around Picasso Griffiths caricaturist
skills for which people donated money to appear on
our soon to be erected wall of fame. There was also
a hotly contested auction with the generously
donated auction items being equally matched by some
amazing bidding from the regulars. (John Ireland's
sanity needs to be questioned following his
telephone bidding from Ireland).
An excellent night was
had by all and we look forward to doing something
similar next year

Cask Beer Week |
| |
|
Emma
was delighted to welcome some of the Slough, Windsor
and Maidenhead branch of CAMRA to host their
contribution to this celebration of all that is best
about British Beer. |

|
Derby Day |
| |
| Derby Day saw manager
Jodie Gregory host a coach trip to Epsom where money
was lost, beers were drunk and one of the team lost
his shoes....literally! Then it was all back to the
pub to drown our sorrows and toast the winners. |

Charity Casino Night |
| |
 |
A regular feature in the
Prince Arthur calendar, May saw another profitable
evening for the Childrens Adventure Farm Trust who
made £600 on the night. The biggest fun chip winner
was Tim Morys, who for the second time carried away a
DVD player. This brings our total raised to in
excess of £2,500. As ever Emma is grateful to all our
customers who make these evenings such a success.
Left: Paul Goodwin achieves a lifelong ambition and
helps out at the tables. |

Cricket Match |
| |
| Each year the '77' wine bar
from West Hampstead challenge us to a cricket match and
2003 sees the third year of the challenge with the
scores tied at one all!! Cricket obviously comes a
poor second to beer and this has shown in the incredibly
high scores not achieved!! |

Golf Day |
| |

Emma presenting John Cayton
with the overall winners trophy |
The second annual golf day
was held at Blue Mountain in Bracknell and once again
was great success.
Sion 'Beverley' Jones turned up to defend his title
after last years blistering display but was narrowly
beaten by 'Little' John Cayton.
Nearest the Pin was won by John 'FatBoy' Ireland,
longest drive by John 'The Slot' Blackwell.
There were many complaints that the bar was empty by
the 11th and the motorised barman will do better next
year!! |
